How to Elope in a Cabin Airbnb in The Smoky Mountains. A Simple Guide for Couples

Why Choose an Airbnb Cabin Elopement?

Eloping at an Airbnb cabin offers privacy, comfort, and stunning scenery—all in one place. It’s ideal for couples who want a laid-back yet meaningful experience without the pressure of a big wedding. You can get ready, hold your ceremony, and celebrate all in one gorgeous, intimate location. Sounds perfect to me!

Step 1: Find the Right Airbnb

Here are a few things to consider when booking:

  • Location: Choosing a Cabin is essential! Some rentals want you to book a minimum stay, while others are nightly. Create a timeline to help know how many nights you’re planning to stay in The Smokies.

  • The Vibe: For your elopement, I suggest looking for a cabin with a nice view and has all the amenities you might need! Do you want to get married on a deck? In the forest nearby? Or maybe the backyard of the cabin? These questions will help guide you to know what backdrop you want for your photos! (mountain overlooks, wooded trails, etc.).

  • Elopement Policy: Always message the host first. Some hosts are elopement-friendly, while others may restrict events. Be clear that it will be a small ceremony with just you two (or a few guests at most). Ideally, 3-6 people maximum for cabin elopements. More than that is typically considered a micro-wedding.

Step 2: Hire an Elopement Photographer & Officiant

Alright, now that your room is booked! Next important task is booking a local photographer (👋 Hi there, I’d love to help!) Local photographers don’t usually charge travel fees, so something to consider for your budget! Some photographers also have a minimum amount of hours they book for, so make sure you have a rough timeline to inform the photographer how many hours of coverage you need!

The last detail needed to elope for your big day is your officiant! If you need help with any vendor recommendations, I would love to provide more information on that as we move along in the planning process together!

Step 3: Get Your Marriage License

Every state is different, but here’s what to know if you’re eloping in Tennessee:

General Information

  • Before a marriage can occur in Tennessee, a license must be obtained from the County Clerk. The fee is $97.50. The fee is reduced to $37.50 if the couple completes a Premarital Preparation Course. There is no waiting period, the marriage license is valid for thirty (30) days from issuance, and is good for ceremonies performed anywhere in Tennessee.

    • Proof of date of birth (Certified Birth Certificate or Government Issued Photo Identification)

    • Social Security Number (For individuals that have been issued one)

    • Both parties must appear together. If either party is under the age of 18, contact our office for additional requirements.

    • The fee is $97.50. Applicants who have completed a premarital preparation course within a year prior to the date of applying for the license are exempted from paying $60.00 of this fee. Applicants must present a Certificate of Completion completed and signed by the course provider. This document must be notarized and presented to our office at the time of payment and receipt of your license.

  • What to bring: Valid photo IDs (driver’s license, passport), and some counties may ask for your Social Security Number.

  • Waiting period: There’s no waiting period in Tennessee, so you can use your license the same day you get it.

Here’s a little sample of what a 2-Hour Airbnb Elopement Timeline looks like:

10:00 – Photographer Arrives
Detail shots (rings, vow books, dress, etc.), and coverage of the getting ready moments.

10:30 – Ceremony
Your officiant leads a heartfelt ceremony. This can include vows, a prayer, or anything meaningful to you.

11:00 – Couple Portraits
Portraits in and around the cabin—on the porch swing, in the woods, near a mountain view, or even inside by candlelight.

11:30 – Mini- Reception/ Family Photos/Cake Cutting
Celebrate with a cozy cabin tradition— sharing your first dance on the balcony, cutting your wedding cake together, or just going for a walk in the woods together and enjoying nature.

12:00- Final Goodbyes ( more time can be added as well- all packages are custom tailored to each couple!)
